A Brighter Community Alumni 2001 - 2003

Jason Alexander Mazard

Jason Alexander Mazard attended A Brighter Community from 2001 – 2003 at the age of 3 to 5 years old.  “Being at A Brighter Community had a significant impact on not only my life but my parents’ lives as well.  As a young child, my parents both worked two jobs and countless overtime hours to be able to make ends meet.  They needed a safe place for me.  A Brighter Community provided my parents peace of mind that while they were working, I was in a safe nurturing environment.”

“During my three years at A Brighter Community, two teachers become very special to my family and me.  Those teachers were Ms. Michelle and Ms. Maxine.  Ms. Michelle was my three year old teacher.  She took on a motherly role.  This was my first time away from my parents.  She was in constant motion reading, playing, interacting and teaching us.  It was Ms. Michelle who created the safe nurturing foundation for me at A Brighter Community.”

“Ms. Maxine was my VPK teacher.  She took my education to the next level by pushing me every day to work hard and learn.  She focused on vocabulary, reading and writing.  Ms. Maxine became my role model on how to behave properly and was very strict about discipline.  Although she was very strict, Ms. Maxine treated every student like he/she was her own always taking the time to listen and help when needed.  Ms. Maxine taught me that hard work and education could take me anywhere in life.”

“After leaving A Brighter Community for Kindergarten, I was able to return for their United Way Summer Camp.  During these summers, we were taken on field trips around the Tampa Bay area like the library, YMCA for swimming classes, Lowery Park Zoo, the aquarium and Bush Gardens.  During the summer, our instructors kept us learning through educational games and reading.”

“A Brighter Community has become a second home to me.  It made such an impact on me that I have begun to volunteer my time there.”

Jason is now a 17 year old senior at King High School.  Over the summer he completed three dual enrollment classes at Hillsborough Community College.  As of August of 2015, Jason was ranked first in his high school class is expected to be Valedictorian of his class of 2016.  Jason is in the process of applying to all eight Ivy League Universities and four top Florida Universities.  Jason is expected to attend college on a full scholarship.
